Morning settles quietly over the countryside as golden light touches the water, mist lingers among the distant hills, and a red barn stands beyond the pond. Then a goose comes in for a landing, breaking the stillness of the morning with The First Sound.
This peaceful rural landscape was originally painted in transparent watercolor by artist Heidi Sack. A weathered fence leads the eye through the foreground, while the sweeping branches of an old tree frame the barn, pond, and softly layered countryside beyond. The warm early light and movement of the goose bring life to an otherwise quiet moment.
The First Sound was accepted into the 2026 Lucien Kapp Art Competition at the James Millikin Homestead.
Each fine art print is carefully reproduced from Heidi's original watercolor to preserve the color, detail, and character of the painted work.

The apron is beautifully made. The fabric is heavy, similar to canvas. The embroidery pops on the black background. It’s so lovely and makes me proud to wear it. It’s worth every penny of the cost.
